Teenage Network partners with US Government Exchange Programs Alumni Association to train young community Women on STEAM

The removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria presents significant challenges for women, hindering their economic empowerment and participation in the economy. The resulting increase in fuel prices has left a disproportionate impact on women, exacerbating existing barriers. Limited access to financial resources, transportation costs, and gender-based discrimination further complicate the situation. Limited access to training programs and mentorship opportunities restricts women’s capacity building and entrepreneurial success, hindering their ability to navigate the changing economic landscape. Socio-cultural norms that limit women’s decision-making power and control over resources also impede their ability to adapt to the removal of fuel subsidies and make informed economic choices. To address these challenges, Teenage Network in partnership with the US Exchange Programs Alumni Association deployed a comprehensive approach to enhance financial inclusion through targeted support for women entrepreneurs. By creating equitable opportunities for these young women, Nigeria can unlock the untapped potential of women, leading to inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

Over a period of three months, a platform was created for women to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices and acquire ecofriendly skills such as solar energy installation amongst other skills. This program elevated the financial disposition of community women as well as ignited their passion for climate friendly interventions.
