From Self Discovery to Creating lasting Impact: meet Osaiarikre Jewel Etinosa

Jewel was a student of Government Secondary School Gwarimpa when she participated in a 30-Day Leadership Challenge implemented by Teenage Network. In her words: “My experience during this challenge impacted my personal and professional growth immensely. It exposed me to diverse perspectives, taught me how to adapt to challenges and setbacks, encouraged self-reflection, and helped me identify my strength and weaknesses…the skills, knowledge and experience I have gleaned are those that I will continue to implement throughout my life.”
Learning from the stories of female leaders across the world and how their journeys started inspired Jewel in 2018 as she realised how much power women have, and how this power goes unnoticed until they step up. During the challenge, she designed her storyboard creating a connection between her present situation and the kind of leader she wants to be. Since then, Jewel hasn’t looked back as she daily press to become the leader she envisioned. She immediately took the initiative of serving as a learning guide for fellow female students who had challenges with studying. In 2021, she participated in the Girls’ Voices Essay Competition by Youth Hub Africa and she emerged as one of the contributors to the National Girls’ Charter. In 2022, she was also selected as a member of the Girls’ reference group by Global Fund where she contributed to program design for girls. We are proud of Jewel and the work she has moved on to do with other organizations such as Water Aid, Save the Children, UNDP and UNFPA.
